Little Free Library commission

Here is another Little Free Library commission. I decided to do this one in oil paint as opposed to acrylic. I'll be delivering it one day next week and will post the completed piece. There are multiple sides that have images. I think these are the greatest thing to be honest.

I swear to goddess, snapchat filters are the bane of my existence when it comes to portraiture. It's not cute, it's not attractive...it's fake and somewhat narcissistic in my opinion. What's worse is if a person is over 21 with Snapchat, passing off over-filtered, fake photos as though it's really them; it's kind of sad and shows a lack of self esteem. Slap on that shitty ass duckface for extra-tacky bonus points. I mean, it's cute if you're doing it for fun, and I'm sure a lot of people are. But I cannot count how many Snapchat photos I get sent to draw or paint. Prior to everyone's favorite cheating app, there are a small handful of portraits that I completed, where the client wasn't pleased with their portrait. Over the last year however, I have received a minimum of 2 portrait requests a month where it's clear a filter has been used. The face looks flat, unrealistic, and unappealing. And in this timeframe, I have received more negative feedback from my portraits than the previous 14 years combined. After one lady complained, I took her photo and used a projector and traced the photo directly onto the canvas and still, she was not happy. She said it looked nothing like her, even though it was identical to the over-filtered photo. Of course it didn't look like her...it wasn't her, it was what she wanted to look like. Ugh...okay...rant over.

Daybreak sale

"Daybreak"
Oil
30"x30"
Now in the collection of VCU Health. This was part of their purchase of art for one of their new buildings. This painting was one I started last year after a trip out to the mountains. The sun was just peering over the mountains and cast an amazing glow over the sheds and foreground leaves. I love a good sunset, and I love the lights and shadows it casts. But what I truly love about a good sunset, is when it strikes the leaves of a tree and the leaves almost light up with an ethereal glow.

I've experienced some amazing sunsets in my life, some more than others. This was one that I had to capture, and I'm so thankful that VCU Health has added another one of my paintings to their collection.

Family Portrait commission

This is one of those portraits that you never know how they're going to turn out because not everyone is posing in the pic together. This is a pencil drawing of several photographs put together to make it appear that the family is in one setting. It's nerve-racking because it's a crap shoot. The family loved it, and that's all that matters to me.

Brewery Series

Here you go ladies and gents. This isn't some cheap digital painting...28 hand painted notecards of all the local Richmond breweries. These will be turned into coasters, as well as a brewery map poster. Scotts Addition coasters will be available this week. You're welcome.

Unfortunately, the remaining breweries for coasters are on back order and will be made available once they come in.
