Vintage Longbottom Leaf Ad

Longbottom Leaf is one of the most famous and highly sought-after varieties of pipe-weed in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings universe. Grown in the South Farthing of the Shire, it was famously discovered by Merry and Pippin in Saruman's ruined storehouses at Isengard.
Pipe-weed was first domesticated in the Shire around the year 2670 of the Third Age by Tobold Hornblower of Longbottom and it was considered one of the absolute finest blends of Nicotiana (tobacco) in the Shire.
In this fan art, I attempted to capture the feel of vintage tobacco ads.
8x10 - $20
11x14 - $25

Auction for the Ronald McDonald House

LAST YEAR, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY to create a piece for an art auction that benefited The Ronald McDonald House at Crossroads Art Center. I saw something years ago with the finger of God handing Adam a Pepsi and I thought I'd flip it a little and paint in some of their delicious fries. Christina Dick who owns the marketing agency Tiramisu For Breakfast sponsored the auction. This one was auctioned off before opening night. I'm hoping they do more of these. It's fun, and the money goes to a good cause.

Pop-Up Art Show

If you're in the area, I have a Pop-Up Art Show at the Watkins in Richmond, VA this Friday from 6-8pm that runs until March 21. Matt Lively, Hamilton Glass, Daphne Maxwell-Reid, Allyson Woodruff, Linda Shaw, Julius Davis...and about 20 artists will be showing as well. Years ago, I had a friend who told me, "I love your paintings but damn, there's something about your black and white drawings that really pop." I rarely work in charcoal anymore but decided to do one for this show.

Fox Elementary School Fundraiser

A WEEK BEFORE VALENTINE'S DAY, I was invited to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture to live paint at a fundraiser for Fox Elementary School. Fox Elementary School is a historic school in Richmond, VA that was destroyed in a fire in 2022. It has since been rebuilt and reopened. One of the parents, June Renschler, donated a really nice floral display and I had 3 and half hours to paint the display to be auctioned off.

VCU Nursing Program

LAST WEEK, I DID A LIVE painting at the Willow Oaks Country Club. Attendees could donate on behalf of themselves (or friend/loved one/colleague, etc.) and the money went to the Nursing Program at VCU. Rodney The Ram came up and painted a few strokes and 3 people donated on behalf of Dr. Ellis Youngkin, the mother of former governor Glenn Youngkin.

Richmond Wedding Show 2026

I had no idea that when I began this journey as a live wedding painter where it would take me. I've had the opportunity to work with some absolutely amazing and phenomenal couples on their special day. I'm going to share two photos below. While I have been doing live wedding painting since 2016, I didn't do them often, as it wasn't something I thought I could make a career out of. I began to take it serious in 2021 and as bookings came in, the pressure to improve and better myself was intense. The two photos are just to show progress, 4 years apart.

2021
As you can tell, there is a ton of detail in the trees and little focus on the couple. While this particular venue isn't the most accommodating, I was still new at really pushing myself in the world of live wedding painting. I was trying to capture everything all at once, and while the couple was happy (I was happy at the time) you can tell I was an amateur at doing live wedding painting.

2025
Four years later, more focus is on the couple and a special moment they shared. They requested the chandelier in the painting and while I think I could've pushed it back so they could be more in focus, the couple was absolutely over the moon with the painting. To date, it's one of my favorite live wedding paintings. There was a TON of detail in the dress, and a sheen that I had to put on his outfit that was a challenge.

While it may seem out of place to say on this post, the two photos are representative of what happens when you have a good partner in your life - one who pushes you to better yourself and makes you realize you can be so much more.

Commissioned Family Portrait

ANOTHER FAMILY PORTRAIT COMMISSIONED BY RHONDA last year for a Christmas present. It's rare that I get to paint an entire family, so this was a real treat.
