Medical Illustration
These two paintings/illustrations - also in oil - are companions to the one posted yesterday. The bottom painting is actually my daughter's eye. I needed one for the illustration, so I used her as a model. The top portion is really the interior of the eye. Along the back of the retina, there are these rod and cone shaped objects. When light passes through your eye, it strikes these cones and rods. The cones pick up the color. As humans, we are trichromatic creatures. Tri, meaning 3, and chromatic, or chroma, meaning color - Red, Green & Blue. Humans cannot see the color yellow or purple. When light passes through your eye, it strikes these rods and cones, causing them to vibrate. When your eye detects something as being yellow, the red rods and the green rods vibrate and overlap, giving us the illusion that we're seeing the color yellow. The same goes for the color purple.

Yellow Jacket nest
Soooo ... I have a yellow jacket nest in my back yard. With two small dogs, and a small child, this works wonders for my Saturday. Great ... just great! I know, I know ... what does this have to do with art? Nothing. Just a thought. Because I only have a Facebook fan page, and not an actual "Facebook" page per se anymore, I no longer have an online presence where I put info out there that is ridiculous and redundant. Anyway, back to the easel.
Medical Illustration
Here is a medical illustration of the interior of the eye. Over the next few days, I'll post some more photos of some of the illustrations. Most medical illustrations are completed digitally, but every so often, I get an order for an hand draw/painted piece. This piece was completed in oil.

Beauty and the Beast
This is an oil painting 11x14. I called it Beauty and the Beast because of the misconception of what true beauty is. Of course, the flower is beautiful, but that's not the focal point. Here we see a black widow spider, moving toward a beautiful insect. The thing of beauty is the spider. A caterpillar destroys countless crops and trees before it turns into a butterfly. Spiders are nature's exterminators, and it's our first instinct to stomp and crush them when we see them. Personally, I like spiders, and I appreciate what they do. This is an example of that act, just a moment before she takes the butterfly out of this life. Email for price.
