Brodess Farm Pleinair Painting

Pleinair painting that is to be detailed and colored of the Brodess Farm in Dorchester, Maryland. It was cloudy and cold and kind of dreary. This is the childhood home of Harriet Tubman. The original structures have long since been demolished and the only thing there is a small house that is privately owned. There is a small section where you can stand and view the area and take pictures, but you're not allowed on the land. not much has changed since Harriet Tubman lived and escaped from here, as far as the landscape is concerned. I thought it was fitting that the day was cloudy, which is kind of fitting for the atrocities that went on here.

Painting in Richmond

Sunday in RVA was absolutely gorgeous. The weather in VA can go from one extreme to the other. After moving, getting sick (I think the flu is going around) and unpacking my things, this was a welcome treat ... going out and painting the city. This is going to be a great year.

My first pen and ink drawing

This was a treat. I've just moved into a new place and I was unpacking boxes of art and supplies, setting up my studio and basically clearing out my life, starting over, and I came across this little gem. I have a ton of old artwork from high school and my early time in the Army and most of it is so damaged that I had to toss it out. But this ... this was a nice memory.

When I was in the 8th grade, I wanted to be an architect and I began to study and design interiors. I think I must have been in the 9th or 10th grade when I drew this. It's my first real attempt at drawing something to look professional. I have no idea where I was planning to go with this, but damn ... this brought back some memories.
